Actually it's useful against every class when armor boosts are in effect. A Monk getting a +20 armor boost will find that negated by cracked armor. An elementalist with a +5 armor offhand will find that that is negated with cracked armor.

well if u havent noticed already, only spell casters can inflict cracked armour (maybe to level the armor field a bit against a warrior). but also only physical fighters can get benefits from cracked armor, so it hink this is trying to do 2 things:
- make people try and create more elaborate and creative builds where u use a mixture of magic and physical, instead of the simple, purebred builds
- make ppl work together more and to have more co-ordinated teams and stratergies, so that u can create some really well co-ordinated and technical teamwork.

They should add a hammer skill that causes this condition.

What I want to know is if shield AL is applied before or after the condition. (for the cases of monk holding shields etc)
This condition pretty much just turn shield to shield-less if anything.

Yeah Vermilion that is the real question. Will this condition affect insignas and equipment bonuses or only base AL (unless I've missed something from Izzy, there is no official word yet on how this works, so keep the speculation away)?

From the discussion on Cracked Armor in the official Wiki:
The point of Cracked Armor is to allow you to deal with Heavy Armored targets like Warriors and Paragons, it's still a condition and it can get removed, it also works on every class because there are skills on all Physicals that use Cracked Armor. It's pretty much a counter to all passive armor buffs. ~Izzy @-'---- 00:27, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Talk:Cracked_Armor
Which I think means that if your total AL is over 60 through whatever means (insignias, shields, weapons of defense, skills, enchantments etc) Cracked armour will decrease it by a maximum of 20 but won't take it below 60.
The wiki discussion does raise the interesting point of a warrior suffering from cracked armour and then using Healing Signet....

it seems to be just an overall caster buff. only casters can cause it and it only really affects non-casters. less-so for dervishes and sins and more-so for rangers, warriors and paragons.
after reading people talking about "physical damage" i had to recheck the wiki definition:
Condition. While suffering from this Condition, you have -20 armor (minimum 60).
if it lowers al after adding enchantments and stuff then at least it would be a little less of a caster buff.
edit: oh, i guess shadowy burden is going to change to cracked armor too...still though...caster buff.

I wouldn't call it nasty. It's no where near as nasty as daze, deep wound or blind, and most of the degeneration conditions will probably net in more damage too.

No, it would be useful against every caster with a +10 armor against/while X too, and every caster with a shield, which is to say, every caster in the game. You're quite right about it not being overpowered though. 20 armor is not going to win you the game if you can't drop below 60. It's not like it's going to be on everyone 100% of the time.

Then again I guess it is coming with GW:EN which is meant for level 20+

Plus balancing skills around the start of the game is pretty retarded.

So basically if it was named differently to somehow relate to your body, but had the exact same effect, it would be ok to you?
I say, stop whining. It's about the gameplay.
P.S. aren't you the same guy who blames the players for skills being overpowered?

Lol plague touch would work pretty well. I use it on my warrior and people don't really expect it. So don't have to worry that much about the other conditions. and I'll just pass it on to a foe, if their close enough lol.

Coming soon
Guild Wars Eye of the North (August 31 2007)
Skill changes: Shadowy Burden and Weaken Armor will be changed to apply Cracked Armor
|
Now Necromancers get one more skill to apply cracked armor, and assassins will receive one too.
Both skills used to state the target had -20 armor, they now will be applying cracked armor.

I'm not whining. All I was doing was bringing my point to the fore. I have no problems with it being a condition as a mechanic - in fact I love the idea of a new condition, and I love what cracked armor does as a condition. I was simply trying to say that it didn't seem like it fit according to how the other conditions worked. That is all. No complaining, no whining, good lord get over it.

As a War for the most part I can deffinately say I FEAR Cracked armor...
I can just see a mob with 2 lvl 28 air eles aplying Cracked armor then hitting Lightning Hammer or Mind Shock...massive OUCH!!!
This is a dream skill for elementalits and ritualits and a nightmare for warrior and paragons, all others will likely ignore this condition for the most part.
Keep in mind this is really the first condition/skill designed to work on elemental dmg as opposed to physical dmg.
An ele/mes inflicting cracked armor then epidemic right before a nuke, say Meteor shower or a rit following up with spirit rift will deal massive dmg to mobs in pve where most contain multiple wars or have higher armor regarless of classes.(buffs, bosses, ect...)

To be perfectly honest... As a warrior, I'm not too bothered about Cracked Armour.
Just seems like another condition them godsforsaken eles are gonna spam on me to keep Blind covered. Well, and I might notice Lightning Orb.
From my eles' point of view?
Another condition to spam on physicals to keep 'em Blind... Take that, Mending Touch And Lightning Orb might, might make a noticeable dent on HP now.

The problem Stormlord, is that you're looking at it from a PvP perspective, while Crom was worried about PvE. And yeah, in PvE, Cracked Armor could be devestating if you have incompetent monks. A Cracked Armor Epidemic (how does that even make sense?) would be nice with nuking though.

omg lol you always fail to see the issue freekedoutfish >.<; need i remind you of the "what if blind really DID blind you?" thread?
what arcanemacabre meant to say was that all conditions, since cracked armor, have been BODY related problems. For example, poison, bleeding, dazed, etc.
but now, cracked armor is NOT BODY related. It relates to your ARMOR, not your BODY. Arcanemecabre didn't mind that it was a condition, and that it could be removed by condition removing skills, but did mind that THE NAME did not have something to do with a BODY related problem. Do you get it now?!
